Cruise the rugged shores of Caria
Turkey’s Mediterranean shores are blessed with some
of the finest scenery and the purest seas in the world (Itinerary
and Map). Cruise from Bodrum to Fethiye, ancient Telmessos
and you will find that these waters are among the quietest
in the Mediterranean, with wild, rugged shores and many deep
secluded inlets. There are also beautiful walks and hikes
through this unspoiled landscape.
History without the people!
Highlights include Knidos, superbly sited at the corner of
the Aegean and the Mediterranean and overlooking five Greek
Islands. This is the haunt of Aphrodite, one of the most famous
statues of antiquity, which was kept at Knidos. Further along
the coast lie the villages of Selimiyeh and Bozburun where
local rural life can be sampled walking through ancient fields
heady with the scent of wild thyme and oregano. Or stop for
a drink at one of the quayside bars.
Reed-fringed rivers and stunning sea-scapes
Sailing east will reach the ancient port of Caunos at the
mouth of the Dalyan River. Take a shallow-draft boat up the
river to see the harbour installations and the theatre, and
of course there are the famous rock-cut tombs, 2500 years
old. And then on to the Bay of Fethiye, with Lydae and Arymaxa,
with some of the finest views over the bay and the Taurus
Mountains.
This itinerary can be done as a one
week or as a two week
cruise.
