Ancient Sea Lanes
The sea lanes of the ancient Aegean have been the highways
to Greek armies, Syrian traders, Roman legates, early
Christian apostles and Byzantine merchants all navigated
these turquoise waters.
4000 years of twixt Europe and Asia
We begin with Constantinople, the new Rome, displaying
the splendour of the Byzantine world. We see her translated
into the Sublime Porte, first city of the Ottoman domain
– over 1600 years of empire in a single city.
We continue to Troy, the Ilium of Priam and of Helen.
Troy's significance was the intersection of major trade
routes - between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea,
and Europe and Asia.
Imperial Echoes
Along the coasts of Ionia, we visit Pergamum, home
to the famous library, and Ephesus, one of the richest
cities in the Classical world, her marble streets still
exuding the atmosphere of Imperial Rome and High Byzantium.
Cruising the quiet waters of Miletus & Didyma, Iasos
& Halicarnassus, the ancient world comes to life.
Classical Cruising
Our cruise explores these fascinating cities, by road
along the Sea of Marmara, and then from the luxury of
our own private yacht - a sybaritic mix of mental stimulation
and bodily relaxation
