Contrasts and Cultures - South African safaris

Walking with giraffes, Zululand
A world in one country

South Africa is truly is a world in one country. From the aridity of the Kalahari Desert to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, the geographical contrasts could not be greater. Nowhere else in the world can you watch big game in spectacular African bush one day, and sample fine wines in the balmy climate of the Western Cape the next.

Cape Town and the Garden Route

The lush green of the Cape of Good Hope to Plettenberg Bay and beyond provides an excellent venue for a winter holiday. The Cape climate has allowed vines to flourish since the 17th century. Jane Austen speaks of 'taking a glass of Constantia', from Van der Stel's vineyards at Groot Constantia in the shadow of Table Mountain.

KwaZulu Natal

The eastern lowveld of the South African east is quintessential African bush, a vast belt of parkland savannah stretching from the Limpopo in the north through to Zululand in the south. This is the landscape of primeval Africa - a scene of flat-topped umbrella thorns and dry water courses rimmed with sycamore figs and weeping bean trees.

Kruger National Park

Dominating its eastern boundary is the world-renowned Kruger National Park, one of the largest reserves in Africa and the haunt of big game. This is the preserve of elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard and cheetah. At its water holes giraffe, impala, kudu and bushbuck come to drink.

Why not combine your South Africa Tour with Namibia or Botswana, or with Swaziland and Mozambique
