THE NAMIB
The Namib desert, one of the driest places on Earth, sits
astride the southern Tropic on the west side of Africa. It
has the world's largest sand dunes at Sossusvlei. Some of
the world's rarest plants live here - the underground tree
Welwitschia mirabilis. There are specially adapted animals
and reptiles which can withstand the searing mid-day heat.
And the Namib scenery is unrivalled in the southern hemisphere.
UNRIVALLED SCENERY
The Namibia scenery is dramatic. From the dry canyon of the
Huanib River to the ice cold Benguela current along the shore,
this arid landscape is a photographer's dream. Climbing over
the plateau granite domes rise like islands in an acacia ocean.
Though one of the wildest parts of Africa, it can be visited
using well appointed lodges.
ABUNDANT WILDLIFE
The desert elephants of Damaraland are one of the true wonders
of the natural world, surviving as they do in this thirst
land. And the shimmering salt pan of Etosha is alive from
with mighty herds of game coming to its waterholes - zebra,
springbok, rhino, elephant, giraffe and many other. Home to
many species of birds, such as the striding Kori Bustard,
Etosha is one of the most prolific game reserves in Africa.
